Squamscott Community Commons will be built on the site of the old Junior High School, 56 Linden Street in Exeter. The land and building occupy about ten acres of land that abuts the Little River and adjacent wetlands. The property was purchased by The Commons on June 30, 2008 from the Exeter Region Cooperative School District.
Squamscott Community Commons plans to recycle and demolish the 1967 school building and construct a high-performance multi-tenant non-profit community center and YMCA. The new community center will be an important partner in a wider campus, The Tuck Learning Campus: Alternative Education Program, Exeter Adult Education, Great Bay eLearning Charter School, and Seacoast School of Technology. The concept of a community center has been endorsed through the Exeter Master Plan Visioning Sessions held in 2002: "The second highest ranked need identified (after improving the high school) was the establishment of a multi-use community center that would feature a multi-use indoor recreation space, indoor pool, and public meeting rooms."
